Runes

Version 0.11.0: This article may not be up to date for the latest version of Isleward.

Runes are equippable items that grant abilities usable by players and some monsters.

Runes can be "learned" (equipped) by right clicking a rune in the inventory and pressing learn, or by pressing J and clicking on a rune slots at the bottom and selecting a rune. Up to four runes can be learned at a time, not including the space ability that main hand weapons provide.

When runes are learned they appear in the spellbook in top right corner. Hovering over their icons shows more details about the abilities.

Runes usually use mana points when cast by players, and some runes also require a target to cast. Runes also have different qualities and level requirements.

Unlike other equipment, runes cannot be augmented, although they can still be salvaged for essences.

Note: Most rune information can be found in this config file on GitLab. Not all runes are available there though.

Obtaining Runes

Characters start with a few runes learned depending on their chosen spirit. Runes can also be dropped by monsters when killed.

Players can trade a set of Runecrafter's Toil cards with the Shady Dealer for a random level 10, 15, or 20 rune. Asvald also sells some level 1 runes for 30 gold.

Some runes can be crafted at the Etching Station using Muddy Runestones and other materials.
