The Pincer King is a level 7 rare monster that can be found on Fjolarok. It is a stronger version of a Titan Crab, and occasionally spawns in place of one. The Pincer King can be identified from a regular titan crab by the square marking around it. The Pincer King is able to use rune normally used by players, thus rendering some The Pincer King more dangerous than others.

Like other rare monsters, The Pincer King always drops magic items or better, and this it is recommended to fight The Pincer King in a group, decreasing the difficulty of the battle and enabling multiple players to obtain loot.
How to use :

You deal damage + regen hp with the Harvest life rune ( + some hp regen from the Cowl of obscurity )

* Having a good 1200+ hp, 50+ hp regen, decent armor/resist (poison for temple/esturay) help a lot to not die too fast from the damage you take from ennemies / Steelclaw self damage

* Having enough mana regen to be able to spam Harvest life is a must have

* As 4th rune you can use a 3rd Harvest / 2nd Charge / Tranquility / Innervation
How to use :

This build is not very good at the moment because we don't have real tank runes (Like aggro keep rune). But I tested it and it is pretty tanking enough.

* The defensives stats must be 90%+ perfect and you need a nice pool of hp/hp regen to never be one shot

* You can also use a Cowl of Obscurity for some free heal (But you deal low damage)

* The 2 charges is used to spam charge stun monsters (Need ~20% mana regen) and help other to not be hit by them

(This build will have big rework when new rune will be added !)
Depending on the situation, this build can be very powerful. If you have enough life on hit, it is easy to heal up. This is especially useful in places where mobs are aggressive like estuary, so you can get to mog faster. It is also the dominant build in the festival of the sun event.

* As 4th rune you can use a 3rd Harvest / 2nd Charge / Tranquility / Innervation

* Ice spear/Charge can be used on Boss/Scarlet to slow their movement/stun (Be caution of the self damage of the Steelclaw)

* Use 1 or 2 aura buff for your party member (The Sash of souls help to reduce the mana reserved of your tranquility)

* You still get loot/exp if you heal a party member that damage a monster
Haunted Eggplants use ranged attacks, but will also summon a long delayed Crystal Spikes attack, which can be easily dodged by watching out for the purple haze that appears before the attack comes through.

__NOTOC__

Combat
Combat is relatively simple in Isleward.

You can target a monster by left-clicking on it. You can also target the nearest monster using the
tab
key. Walk toward the monster to get within range of your weapon and press
space
to engage auto-attack for your main weapon. Attacking a monster will cause it to retaliate. Some monsters may also automatically attack you if the player gets too close (Bandits hideout mobs, Estuary mobs and Temple mobs). Aggressive mobs will have a tag:
Aggressive
shown in the info pannel when you hove your mouse over them.

The monster or your character dies when its HP is depleted to zero. You can view your current HP at the top left corner (red gauge). If you are killed in combat, you will respawn (unless you have the hardcore prophecies, in which case your death is permanent), and the monster's HP will be healed to full. Once a monster is killed, you will gain experience and it may drop loot for you to pick up by walking over it.

Weapons
Different weapons have different stats, attributes and ways of dealing damage (Ranged weapons, melee weapons, weapons with life steal etc...). You can increase your damage by improving your own stats and attributes or improving the attributes of your weapon by augmenting, enchanting or by using a weapon with higher base damage. note that critical hits also play a role in your damage.

Runes
Runes also provide additional abilities to assist you in combat, such as dealing damage or healing yourself. You can learn up to four runes at a time, and activate their abilities by pressing
1
,
2
,
3
or
4
. Runes require mana to use, which can also be seen at the top left corner (blue gauge). Some runes also require time to cast and have a cooldown before the same rune can be used again.

Defense
You can decrease the damage taken by improving Armor or Resistances stats. You can also heal yourself with Minor Healing Potions, Carps on sticks, Rune of Consecrate, and Rune of Innervation. Note that healing and mana also recharge over time and depending on your stats, they can recharge at different speeds.

Others
You can also form a party with other players to defeat more difficult monsters, and obtain shared loot and experience.
Forming a party also allows you to see all the party member's health, mana, and names (located on the left side of the screen). Party members also share any activated Auras when in range of eachother.

__TOC__

Chat
The chat is one of the main social features in Isleward.

Basics
To open the chat, simply press
enter
. When open, you can type messages into the chat. Pressing
enter
when the chat is open will send the currently typed message if there is one.
The message will be color-coded depending on the sender:
*(dev) : developer
*(p) : Supporter on Patreon
*(m) : Moderator

Chat Tabs
The chat has multiple tabs at the top to filter out messages.
The default tabs are
info
,
reputation
,
players
, and
loot
, but at times more will appear, for example when using custom chat channels.

To prevent messages from any of these tabs, press
enter
to open the chat window, and then click the corresponding tabs to turn on or off messages from each source.

Currently, turning off
players
will also no longer show any messages from custom channels, even if the customs channels are turned on.
Additionally, results from salvaging will show up in the Info tab.

Custom Channels
Custom Channels are channels that can be created by anyone to have a different feed of messages.
Custom channels are joined (created if non-existent) with
/join

, and can be left with
/leave

.
Once joined, a tab with the channel name will appear above the chat window, enabling control over whether the messages in the channel appear in the chat window, as with the other chat tabs.
To say something in a custom channel, type
$
<message>
.

Linking Items
You can link items in the chat by opening your inventory, holding
CTRL
and clicking on the item, or by right-clicking on the item and clicking
link
. Linked items appear in the chat as
{Item Name}
, with the appropriate color for the item's quality.
When a player hovers their cursor over the name of a linked item while their chat is open, the item's stats will be displayed.

Whispers
Players can whisper to each other by typing
@
and then choosing the name of the player they want to whisper to. Players can also whisper to someone by choosing their name from the dropdown menu in the bottom-left corner of chat if they have already sent or received a whisper to/from that character.
Messages sent to a player by whispering will only be visible to that player and the sender, and will be highlighted in orange.

Party Chat
Players can switch to party chat by typing
%
. One can also switch to party chat by choosing it from the dropdown menu in the bottom-left corner of chat.
Messages sent in the party chat will only be visible to people who are in the same party and will appear turquoise.
Use as to not fill the chat when you are in a party, as well as for additional visibility and ease of access in comparison to whispering.

Players can improve their reputation with the Akarei by collecting Digested Crystals from Crystal Snails and Crystal Whelks and giving them to Thaumaturge Yala deep within the Crystal Caves.
Each Digested Crystal given to Thaumaturge Yala will raise the player's reputation with the Akarei by 15.
Everyone starts with 1000 reputation when meeting the Akarei, about 67 crystals of reputation.
The Akarei need digested crystals to power their portal to return their home city of Iskar, which they suspect may be under attack from a darkness that is consuming their defenses.
The Akarei were sent here by the Iskar council to find a new source of energy for their magic dome, "a bulwark of pure energy", to protect Iskar.
The crystals in the Crystal Caves are highly energized, but too unstable in their natural form to be useful.
The crystal snails that inhabit the cave process the crystals into a more stable form which can be used by the Akarei.
Thaumaturge Yala is the thirty-fourth in line to the throne of the Akarei.

History
* Prior to v0.1.10, it was possible to attack and kill the Akarei members, and doing so makes you lose reputation with them.

To store items, you need to stand next to a shared stash, right-click on an item in the inventory (
I
) and press
stash
. To access the stash, press
U
to open the stash UI while standing next to it. To move items from the stash to inventory, right click on an item and press
withdraw
in the stash UI.

Shared stash has a maximum limit of 50 items stored.

Items in the two stashes are linked and shared by all characters in the same account, so you can use it to transfer items to other characters. Each stash is only accessible by characters on the same account, meaning nobody else can access the items inside your stash.
Monsters
Monsters can be found wandering around islands, as well as in dungeons. Players fight and kill monsters for items, experience, and to finish quests. Monsters may drop equipments, cards, idols and quest items when killed. Some monsters may auto-attack players if they get too close, and return to their natural habitat when they stray too far.

* Health, Mana, Damage, and Armor of a monster are RANDOMLY generated (The health column is an
"average"
)

Regular Monsters
The table below summarizes information about the monsters in Isleward. For brevity, only quest drops and special/important drops are listed in the drops column.
Rare Monsters
Rare monsters occasionally spawn (4% chance) in the place of regular monsters, and have 1.5 times as much health and deal 1.5 times as much damage. Rare monsters always drop magic items or better, and can use one or skills normally used by players. As a result, some rare monsters of the same type are easier to defeat than others, as the Circle of Healing skill confers nearly no utility for the monster, whereas the Magic Missile skill can significantly increase the difficulty. It is recommended to fight rare monsters in groups, as all participating players will receive loot, and it is easier to deal with the monster's skills. Monsters in dungeons can spawn as rare monsters, but do not change their name and are not listed below.
What is Isleward
Isleward is a multiplayer roguelike currently in development by Big Bad Waffle. The game is based around creating a character, exploring different islands, fighting mobs (monsters), forming a party, and spelunking and completing dungeons in search of treasure. Strengthening your character through looting better equipment and leveling up by gaining experience is also an integral part of the process!

The game is open-source, and the code and other assets can be found on the Gitlab. Thus, players can help spot bugs or even write mods to improve the game.

Registering an Account
To make an account, navigate to https://play.isleward.com, enter a username and password and press
register
.

Spirit
The first step in creating a new character is choosing a "spirit". This is similar to a class or a race. As a general rule, focus on increasing your spirit’s main stat (see below for ways to do this), as that is what your weapon’s damage scales from.

Owl- The "mage" class
* Main stat: Intelligence
* Recommended weapons: Wands or Staffs
* Recommended off-hand items: Brittle Tomes or Ancient Tomes
Bear- The "warrior" class
* Recommended weapons: Swords or Axes
* Recommended off-hand items: Shields
Lynx- The "rogue" class
* Main stat: Dexterity
* Recommended weapons: Spears or Daggers
* Recommended off-hand items: Shields

You will also see a box with different prophecies on the right. Prophecies are special and permanent modifications to characters chosen at character creation. Choosing a prophecy isn't recommended for beginners; ignore them at first.

Controls
Movement
Use
WASD
or arrow keys to move, or
QEZC
to move diagonally. Every move you do queues up on the server and every turn you move one square down the queue. Press
ESC
to clear your queue.

Combat
Click a monster or use
tab
to select one to attack.

Press
space
to activate your automatic attack with your main weapon. Note that you do not need to continue activating your weapon; it will keep going as long as you continue to fight the same monster.

Press 1, 2, 3 or 4 to activate the abilities that come from your runes (see below).

Character Info
Press
J
to open up your character sheet. On the first page you will see all your basic stats and the equipment your character is wearing/using. At the top you will see tabs that will allow you to access three more pages with additional info.

The info on your weapon damage and what abilities your runes give you can be found moving your mouse pointer over the boxes in the upper-right corner of the main screen (the one where you move, fight, etc.). There may be up to five boxes there depending upon how many runes you have equipped (see below). The box furthest to the left is your main weapon, which performs your auto-attack.

Equipping Items
Most of the time when you kill a mob/monster, you will see "loot" (treasure) appear where the monster was. Simply move into that space to pick it up.
Most of the time the loot will be an item.

* Press
I
to open up your inventory. Left-click the item to see its stats. To equip the item, right click the item you want to equip, and click equip on the dropdown menu

* Also you can press
J
to open up character sheet. Then click on any equipment slot to see all items available to use in that slot. Click on the item you want to equip.

You can do the same with runes, except that in your inventory you need to select "learn" on the dropdown menu.

Where to farm and/or level up
Note: can be different depending on the stats you have on your gear.

* Level 1-10: Fjolarok
* Level 10-15: Sewers
* Level 15-20: Crystal Caves

Complete Quests
Quests are great sources of experience, so make sure to complete as many as you can. Quests are available in Fjolarok, the Sewers, the Crystal Caves, and the Temple.

Quests give different amounts of experience based on its "type" and region. Increased experience will generally be given as you progress to more challenging regions. You can hover your mouse over an uncompleted quest to see how much experience it will reward you for completion.

XP (Experience Points)
If you aren't doing quests, make sure you fight against mobs at your level. This will give the maximum experience output. Fighting mobs of a level that is much higher or much lower than your own will result in receiving very little or no xp at all.

Excess Gear and Runes
* If you have excess gear, salvage it by right clicking and selecting salvage. You can use the material you salvage to improve your gear
* If you have excess runes, make sure to sell them. Runes bring in lots of money, which you will be happy to have later when you are buying gear from the Akarei and the Priest
* Alternatively, salvaging runes will provide Essence of the same rarity of the rune, which can be used to buy a Mounts

How to Survive
* Do not AFK where auto-aggro mobs spawn. You will die when they respawn and start attacking you.
* Make a party with other players. Don't worry, you will get full XP and loot as long as you successfully hit the enemy at least once.
* Don't bite off more than you can chew. Make sure you can survive farming in the next higher-level area if you want to move on.
* Make consumables to quickly restore your health in the middle of a fight.
** Fish for Sun Carps and cook them at the Hermit's fire. (Make sure to buy sticks from the hermit to cook them on)
** Craft minor healing potions in the city at Estrid's shop using the Alchemy Workbench. (Buy vials from Estrid). Each potion heals half your health.
*** To craft a minor potion you need 3 Skyblossoms and one empty vial. Skyblossoms can be found randomly around the map, to collect one stand on it and press
G
.
*** Be cautious when using healing potions, as they have a cooldown

Card Sets
If you obtain a full set of cards you can turn them in to the Shady Dealer in the sewers for a reward. The reward depends on which cards are turned in.

Vendors
Throughout Isleward there are multiple vendors. You can buy different things from each one of them.
* The Hermit sells flimsy fishing rods, sticks, and random equipment for new players.
* Asvald sells basic starting runes.
* Estrid sells empty vials.
* Thaumaturge Yala sells Akarei necklaces if you are honored with the Akarei. (Give her digested crystals that drop from Crystal Snails and Crystal Whelks to gain reputation with the Akarei)
* The Gaekatla Priest sells Gaekatla gear, but you must have a certain reputation with Gaekatla to buy gear from him. (Gain reputation with Gaekatla by killing monsters in the Estuary)
Additionally, you can sell anything to any one of the vendors, and buy the sold item back if you change your mind or accidentally sold something.

Fishing
Fishing is a great way to pass time, get some minor exp (25 exp per catch), and get some nice healing consumables. To fish, you need to be next to a school of fish and press
G
or
U
. After a few seconds you will either catch nothing, a cerulean pearl (used to augment fishing rods), or a fish.
* Note: you can only catch one type of fish for now - Sun Carp - but depending on the weight of the fish, the fish will have a specific name and will restore different amounts of health when cooked and consumed.

Ask for Help
The Isleward community is very friendly. If you have a question or need help, just type it in chat.

Do not Beg
The chat is not your personal begging grounds, so do not use it as such. Nobody likes a beggar in the chat; work for loot, don't beg for it.

Don’t Flood the Main Chat
* If you are in a party, type
%
to switch to the party chat, or manually do it by selecting the chat options at the bottom left of the chat.
* You can also whisper in the following ways:
** Typing
@<player’s name> <message>

** Pressing
O
and right clicking a name
* Create or join a custom channel by typing
/join

and leave using
/leave

. Chat in the channel using
$

<message>
* You can switch back to global chat by typing
!
, or manually do it by selecting the chat options at the bottom left of the chat.
