Despawn Time
Items take 10 minutes to despawn. Since it takes so long, a good technique is to not pick up items until you need them for a quest. (Preferably in Fjolgard Sewers seen as how the quests give so much exp)
Equipment is the main category of items in Isleward.
Equipment improves stats and thus enables players to fight more difficult monsters.
Items can be equipped in the head, neck, chest, hands, finger, waist, legs, feet, trinket, weapon, tool, and rune slots.
Crafting Materials are used to augment equipment and may be used for alchemy and cooking buffs in the future.
Crafting Materials include herbs, fish, and augmentation materials.
Unlike equipment, most crafting materials can be stacked in the inventory, using only one inventory space per type of crafting material.
What is Isleward
Isleward is a multiplayer roguelike currently in development by Big Bad Waffle. The game is based around creating a character, exploring different islands, fighting mobs (monsters), forming a party, and spelunking and completing dungeons in search of treasure. Strengthening your character through looting better equipment and leveling up by gaining experience is also an integral part of the process!

The game is open-source, and the code and other assets can be found on the Gitlab. Thus, players can help spot bugs or even write mods to improve the game.

Registering an Account
To make an account, navigate to https://play.isleward.com, enter a username and password and press
register
.

Spirit
The first step in creating a new character is choosing a"spirit." As a general rule, focus on increasing your spirit’s main stat (see below for ways to do this), as that is what your weapon’s damage scales from.

Owl- The "mage" class
* Main stat: Intelligence
* Weapons: Wands and staffs
* OffHand: Brittle Tomes and Ancient Tomes
Bear- The "warrior" class
* Main stat: Strength
* Weapons: Swords and Axes
* OffHand: Shields
Lynx- The "rogue" class
* Main stat: Dexterity
* Weapons: Spears and Daggers
* OffHand: Shields

You will also see a box with different prophecies on the right. Prophecies are special and permanent modifications to characters chosen at character creation.

It isn't recommended for beginners, ignore these at first (You can at least take Titangrip that will boost your weapon stats).

Controls
Every move you do queues up on the server and every turn you move one square down the queue. Press
ESC
to clear your queue.

Press
space
to activate your automatic attack with your main weapon. Note that you do not need to continue activating your weapon; it will keep going as long as you continue to fight the same monster.

Press 1, 2, 3 or 4 to activate the abilities that come from your runes (see below).

Character Info
Press
J
to open up your character sheet. On the first page you will see all your basic stats and the equipment your character is wearing/using. At the top you will see tabs that will allow you to access three more pages with additional info.

The info on your weapon damage and what abilities your runes give you can be found moving your mouse pointer over the boxes in the upper-right corner of the main screen (the one where you move, fight, etc.). There may be up to five boxes there depending upon how many runes you have equipped (see below). The box furthest to the left is your main weapon, which performs your auto-attack.

Equipping Items
Most of the time when you kill a mob/monster, you will see "loot" (treasure) appear where the monster was. Simply move into that space to pick it up.
Most of the time the loot will be an item.

* Press
I
to open up your inventory. Left-click the item to see its stats. To equip the item, right click the item you want to equip, and click equip on the dropdown menu

* Also you can press
J
to open up character sheet. Then click on any equipment slot to see all items available to use in that slot. Click on the item you want to equip.

You can do the same with runes, except that in your inventory you need to select "learn" on the dropdown menu.

Where to farm
Can be different depending on the luck you have on your gear.

* Level 1-10: Fjolarok
* Level 10-15: Sewers
* Level 15-18: Crystal Caves
* Level 18-20: Estuary

Complete Quests
* Quests are great sources of experience, make sure to complete as many as you can
* There are Quests for Fjolarok, the Sewers, the Crystal Caves, and the Temple

Excess Gear and Runes
* If you have excess gear, salvage it by right clicking and selecting salvage. You can use the material you salvage to improve your gear
* If you have excess runes, make sure to sell them. Runes bring in lots of money, which you will be happy to have later when you are buying gear from the Akarei and the Priest

How to Survive
* Do not AFK where auto-aggro mobs spawn. You will die
* Make a party with friends or other players, you will get full EXP and loot, don't worry. (You still have to hit the enemy, at least once)
* Don't bite off more than you can chew, make sure you can survive farming in the next area if you want to move on
* Make consumables to quickly restore some health in the middle of a fight
** Fish for Sun Carps and cook them at the Hermit's fire. (Make sure to buy sticks from the hermit to cook them on)
** Craft minor healing potions in the city at Estrid's shop using the Alchemy Workbench. (Buy vials from Estrid). Each potion heals half your health
*** To craft a minor potion you need 3 Skyblossoms and one empty vial. Skyblossoms can be found randomly around the map, to collect one stand on it and press
G
.
*** Be cautious when using healing potions, as they have a cooldown

Card Sets
* If you obtain a full set of cards you can turn them in to Vikar in the city for a reward depending upon the cards.

Vendors
* Throughout Isleward there are multiple vendors, each one you can buy and sell from
** The Hermit sells flimsy fishing rods, sticks, and random gear for new players
** Asvald sells basic starting runes
** Estrid sells empty vials.
** Thaumaturge Yala sells Akarei necklaces if you are honored with the Akarei. (Give her digested crystals that drop from Crystal Snails and Crystal Whelks to gain reputation with the Akarei)
** The Gaekatla Priest sells Gaekatla gear, but you must have a certain reputation with Gaekatla to buy gear from him. (Gain reputation with Gaekatla by killing monsters in the Estuary)

Fishing
* Fishing is a great way to pass time and get some nice healing consumables
* To fish you need to be next to a school of fish and press
G
. After a few seconds you will either catch nothing, catch a cerulean pearl (used to augment fishing rods), or catch a fish
* You can only catch one type of fish for now, sun carps, but depending on the weight of the fish, the fish will have a specific name and will give different amounts of health when cooked and consumed
** Fish information
Do not Beg
* The chat is not your personal begging grounds. Do not use it as such. Nobody likes a beggar in the chat, work for loot, don't beg for it

Don’t Flood the Main Chat

* Main stat: Intelligence
* Weapons: Wands, Staffs, and Tridents
* OffHand: Brittle Tomes and Ancient Tomes
Bear- The "warrior" class
* Main stat: Strength
* Weapons: Swords and Axes
* OffHand: Shields
Lynx- The "rogue" class
* Main stat: Dexterity
* Weapons: Spears and Daggers
* OffHand: Shields

You will also see a box with different prophecies on the right. Prophecies are special and permanent modifications to characters chosen at character creation.

It isn't recommended for beginners, ignore these at first (You can at least take Titangrip that will boost your weapon stats).

Controls
Movement
Use
WASD
or arrow keys to move, or
QEZC
to move diagonally. Every move you do queues up on the server and every turn you move one square down the queue. Press
ESC
to clear your queue.

Combat
Click a monster or use
tab
to select one to attack.

Press
space
to activate your automatic attack with your main weapon. Note that you do not need to continue activating your weapon; it will keep going as long as you continue to fight the same monster.

Press 1, 2, 3 or 4 to activate the abilities that come from your runes (see below).

|-
| R || Use the equipped quickslot item
|}

* Press
I
to open up your inventory. Left-click the item to see its stats. To equip the item, right click the item you want to equip, and click equip on the dropdown menu

* Also you can press
J
to open up character sheet. Then click on any equipment slot to see all items available to use in that slot. Click on the item you want to equip.

You can do the same with runes, except that in your inventory you need to select "learn" on the dropdown menu.

Where to farm
Can be different depending on the luck you have on your gear.

* Level 1-10: Fjolarok
* Level 10-15: Sewers
* Level 15-18: Crystal Caves
* Level 18-20: Estuary

* Make a party with friends or other players, you will get full EXP and loot, don’t worry. (You still have to hit the enemy, at least once)
* Don’t bite off more than you can chew, make sure you can survive farming in the next area if you want to move on
* Make consumables to quickly restore some health in the middle of a fight
** Fish for Sun Carps and cook them at the Hermit’s fire. (Make sure to buy sticks from the hermit to cook them on)
** Craft minor healing potions in the city at Estrid’s shop using the Alchemy Workbench.

** Vikar sells basic starting runes

General Community information
Do not Beg
* The chat is not your personal begging grounds. Do not use it as such. Nobody likes a beggar in the chat, work for loot, don’t beg for it

Don’t Flood the Main Chat
* If you are in a party, type
%<message>
to use party chat
You deal damage + regen hp with the Harvest life rune ( + some hp regen from the Cowl of obscurity )

* Having a good 1200+ hp, 50+ hp regen, decent armor/resist (poison for temple/esturay) help a lot to not die too fast from the damage you take from ennemies / Steelclaw self damage

* Having enough mana regen to be able to spam Harvest life is a must have

* As 4th rune you can use a 3rd Harvest / 2nd Charge / Tranquility / Innervation

This build is "useless" at the moment until we don't have real tank runes (Like aggro keep rune). But I test it and it is pretty tanking enough.

* The defensives stats must be 90%+ perfect and you need a nice pool of hp/hp regen to never be one shot

* You can also use a Cowl of Obscurity for some free heal (But you deal low damage)

* The 2 charges is used to spam charge stun monsters (Need ~20% mana regen) and help other to not being hit by them

(This build will have big rework when new rune will be added !)
* Ice spear/Charge can be used on Boss/Scarlet to slow their movement/stun (Be caution of the self damage of the Steelclaw)
* Use 1 or 2 aura buff for your party member (The Sash of souls help to reduce the mana reserved of your tranquility)
Your job is spamming your 2 consecrates where your party member are. Always try to be close your party member to also be healing (Some ennemies can still attack you)

* Ice spear/Charge can be used on Boss/Scarlet to slow their movement/stun

* Use 1 or 2 aura buff for your party member (The Sash of souls help to reduce the mana reserved of your tranquility)

* You still get loot/exp if you heal a party member that damage a monster

* The idea isn't getting high crit/crit mult but high Intellect. You can still help damaging with some rune if nobody need heal
What is Isleward
Isleward is a multiplayer roguelike currently in development by Big Bad Waffle. The game is based around forming a party and exploring different islands, spelunking and completing dungeons in search of treasure. Strengthening your character through looting better equipment and leveling up is also an integral part of the process!

The game is open-source, and the code and other assets can be found on the Gitlab. Thus, players can help spot bugs or even write mods to improve the game.

Registering an Account
To make an account, navigate to https://play.isleward.com, enter a username and password and press
register
.

Where to farm
Can be different depending on the luck you have on your gear.

* Level 1-10: Fjolarok
* Level 10-15: Sewers
* Level 15-18: Crystal Caves
* Level 18-20: Estuary

** Vikar sells basic starting runes
** Estrid sells empty vials.
** Thaumaturge Yala sells Akarei necklaces if you are honored with the Akarei. (Give her digested crystal that drop from Crystal Snails and Crystal Whelks to gain reputation with the Akarei)

General Community information
Ask for Help
* The Isleward community is very friendly, if you have a question or need help, just type it in chat

Do not Beg
* The chat is not your personal begging grounds. Do not use it as such. Nobody likes a beggar in the chat, work for loot, don’t beg for it
Basic
; Level
: Main Article: Character Level
: The level of your character determines the maximum health and equipments you can use. The maximum level is capped at 20. You can only use equipment with a level requirement equal to or lower than your character's level (except when the item has level reduction). You can level up by gaining experience points.

; Experience Points (XP)
: Main Article: Experience Point
: Experience points are used to level up your character. You will gain experience by killing monsters, completing quests and by gathering. The experience required to level up is:
XL * 5 + XL * 10 * (XL^2.2)
where
XL
is your current level. You also receive reduced experience if the monster killed is not the same level as you. The multiplier is:
(1-D/10)^2
where
D
is the difference of levels, and you gain no experience if the difference is 10 or higher.

; Strength
: Strength is the primary stat of the Bear Spirit. It improves the damage of Axes, Swords, and Sickles. Every strength point increases your armor by 1.

; Intellect
: Intellect is the primary stat of the Owl Spirit. It improves the damage of Staffs and Wands. Every 6 intellect points increases your maximum mana by 1.

; Dexterity
: Dexterity is the primary stat of the Lynx Spirit. It improves the damage of Daggers and Spears. Every 12 dexterity points increases your dodge chance by 1%.

; Vitality
: Vitality increases your max health by 10 health per point.

; Max Mana
: Increase your character's maximum mana by 1 mana per point.

; HP Regeneration
: The rate of health restored per tick during combat. Outside combat, HP regenerates at the rate of
max(MaxHP / 112, HPRegen * 0.2)
per tick, while it only regenerates by
HPRegen * 0.2
per tick during combat.

; MP Regeneration
: The rate of mana restored per tick. The amount of MP regenerated per tick is
MPRegen / 50
. Mana regenerates the same in combat as out of combat.
: This will increase your Attack critical chance and Spell critical chance by the amount of it you have.
: The base Global critical hit chance is 5% for all spirits.

; Attack critical chance
: The chance of dealing a critical hit with physical attack.
: The base chance is 5% (Because of the base 5% of Global critical hit chance).

; Spell critical chance
: The chance of dealing a critical hit with a spell attack.
: The base chance is 5% (Because of the base 5% of Global critical hit chance).

; Global critical hit multiplier
: This will increase your Attack critical multiplier and Spell critical multiplier by the amount of it you have.
: The base Global critical hit chance is 150% for all spirits.

; Attack critical multiplier
: The multiplied damage when performing a critical hit with physical attack.
: The base chance is 150% (Because of the base 150% of Global critical hit multiplier).

; Spell critical multiplier
: The multiplied damage when performing a critical hit with a spell attack.
: The base chance is 150% (Because of the base 150% of Global critical hit multiplier).

; Arcane increase / Fire increase / Frost increase / Holy increase / Poison increase / Physical increase / Spell Increase
: Increase the elemental/type of damage by 1% per point.

; Attack Speed / Cast Speed
: The chance of attacking or casting spells without cooling down in succession. In-game, the value is displayed as
100% + chance
, so 110% implies that there is a 10% chance of performing the attack without cooling down.

Defense
; Armor
: Armor reduces the damage taken. The percentage of damage mitigated is
Armor / (100 * XL)
where
XL
is the level of the damage source and the reduction is capped 50%. Therefore, against a level 10 monster you need 500 armor (
500 / (100 * 10) = 50%
) to achieve the maximum damage reduction.

; Chance to block Attacks / Spells
: The chance to completely negate an attack or spell completely. This stat can be found on Shields.

; Chance to dodge Attacks / Spells
: The chance to completely negate an attack or spell completely. This stat can be found on Boots.

; Arcane Resistance / Fire Resistance / Frost Resistance / Holy Resistance / Physical Resistance / Poison Resistance / All Resistance
: Resistance reduces the damage taken from a particular types of element (and All Resistance applies to all types of elements). Each point of resistance reduces the damage taken by
0.5%
and is capped at 50%. Therefore, you need 100 points of resistance to achieve the maximum possible damage mitigation.

The damage reduction offered by armor and resistances stack with each other. If both mitigation sources are capped at 50%, you will only receive 25% of the full damage.

Misc
; Item Quality
: The chance of finding higher quality items.
: Each point reduces the chance to get a common item by 7 (capped at 286 quality).
: (This stat was previously called Magic Find).

; Item Quantity
: The chance of finding more items (no cap, you can have more than 100%).

; Sprint Chance
: The chance of moving two tiles in one tick. Only boots may generate with this stat, and you also gain this stat by using a rune of Swiftness.

; XP Increase
: Increase the experience points gained by killing monsters.

Spirits are characteristics associated with player characters chosen during character creation. The spirit determines your beginning spells, weapons, and the starting node in the Passive Skill Tree. Additionally, you gain a point in the corresponding attribute upon leveling depending on the spirit you have chosen.

The spirit you choose does not limit the equipment or spells you can use.
